Oh my we’re into the 30’s now, that means I’m into my last quarter of pregnancy! I’m not going to lie I’m pretty much ready to be done being pregnant now. I mean I really can’t complain, I haven’t had any major issues or problems, but I also am not one of those people who loves being pregnant either. I’m ready to have control of my body back and it would be really nice to not wake up in the middle of the night with brutal heartburn (I realize all the people who’ve had babies are probably laughing at me right now, I have no idea what I’m in for!)
Baby Size: zucchini and a bunch of asparagus
Symptoms: this isn’t really a symptom, but I realized the other day that I never put an update on here about my gestational diabetes test. I had to go back and do the second, longer test since I failed the first one. It turns out thankfully that I passed it and didn’t have any problems, but also after doing some research it seems like it wasn’t the doomsday scenario I was envisioning even if I did have it. I think people are probably sick of hearing me talk about my lovely heartburn so I will just say that it is still here. The newest thing that’s happened to me is that I now have unbelievably itchy skin. It’s not really a big problem, it’s just incredibly annoying. I feel like I’m constantly applying lotions and balms and all that really does is take the edge off. I’m pretty sure it’s just super dry skin combined with stretching skin, the worst areas are my belly and chest. I’m thinking that I may need to look into getting an actual anti-itch cream rather than just regular lotion. What do you even use for that? Calamine lotion? There was a mix up with my midwife appointments so I’m now not seeing mine again until next week so I guess I’ll have to wait and ask her when I go.
Weight Gain and Belly Bump: I have not been great and I actually haven’t taken any photos lately… oops! I need to get on that because I’m sure that I will wish I had the photos later to remember. My belly feels quite gigantic now and I’m not entirely sure how it’s going to keep getting bigger for the next 8 weeks or so. I finally got an extender for my winter jacket (I can’t remember if I mentioned this already or not?) and I really can’t imagine fitting in my old jacket at this point. I’m up another 2 ish lbs to around an 18lbs gain now so not too bad, if I keep gaining at the same rate it looks like I’ll finish at around 27-28lbs gained which I would be very happy with. For reference though, I haven’t had any problems with water retention which I feel like adds to a lot of people’s weight gain total in pregnancy. You hear those stories of people who give birth and lose like 40lbs in 2 days afterwards.
Anyway, back to my gigantic belly, my bellybutton is still inwards although it’s looking pretty flat. I have a little scar on my belly button from when I decided to get my belly button pierced when I was like 16, and it’s now like a half inch away from where my belly button actually is. The skin on my belly is looking rather mottled at the moment as well. I don’t have any distinctive stretch marks, but the skin is looking a lovely mix of red and purple.
Buying for baby: We are less than two months away now so I’m trying to actually get a bit organized. I went through most of the stuff from our shower so I’m trying to get organized with what we actually still need. How many packs of diapers and things like that do you stock up ahead of time? I saw a friend of mine who had twins in December and she said she has boxes and boxes of Huggies left since she doesn’t like them, so I don’t want to buy a ton off the bat and have them not work. Right now we have one pack of size 1 Huggies, and one pack of newborn size Pampers Swaddlers, how many more should we get? I’m thinking that I want to try cloth diapers at some point, but for the first few weeks I just want to keep it as easy as possible. What about wipes? We have two packs right now, Honest Company and Attitude which is an eco-friendly brand I think. For clothing as well, I’m not sure exactly how many we should get in each size. We got a lot of clothes at our shower so I have around 8-9 newborn size sleepers and 7-8 0-3 month onesies, plus one 0-3 month sleeper. Is that fine to get us through the first few weeks? I’m wondering if I should get a few 0-3 month sleepers in case she doesn’t fit the newborn ones. I haven’t had an ultrasound since 20 weeks so I really have no idea what size she will be when she’s born. My friend who had twins also said she’d give me some hand me downs once her girls grow out of the newborn size, but they were only 5 lbs when they were born (now 6 and 7lbs) so I don’t know exactly when they’ll move up in sizes. Am I overthinking this? I mean we do live downtown in a big city so we’re not exactly far away if we need to grab anything. What do you think are the basic essentials you want before baby arrives?
